Short week for the Huskies and the pressure is on Friday night with Louisville.
First off, there isn't any more news to report on anything. UConn is hunkering down in its bunker and information is tight.
Donald Brown is fine and he is practicing. Will he play? Has he been passed by Andre Dixon? Are they going to split carries? What percentage is Brown?
Randy Edsall continues to be non-committal and intentionally evasive for whatever reason that I don't really get. Brown is either hurt or not. If he is limited because of injury, say he is limited. If Dixon is a better back, say it. It's certainly acceptable scenario to assume that a 100 percent Dixon is better than a 90 percent Brown. Heck, if they were both healthy Dixon may be better. For the money, I like Brown, but I think both have a place in the offense and complement each other. To continue to be evasive begs for antagonistic follow up questions and cranky blogger posts.
I don't think this is a big deal, both guys are good, but it is fast becoming one.
Then he said we (the media) were making too much of a deal about the backs and who starts. I guess none of the 40,000 Huskies fans and thousands others reading, listening and following the team are the least bit interested in the running back situation.
Snarkiness aside --
This week Edsall predetermined who gets to speak the media and wasn't allowing requests as is custom. Dan Davis, Darius Butler, Tyvon Branch, Tyler Lorenzen, DJ and LT were brought up. They were all pretty good. It was a good mix.
Tyler Lorenzen was asked about the silent count and said he was told by the coaches to not talk about the final sequences to the media. So if you want to know why he went off the silent count you are out of luck. No one pressed Lorenzen, he got his marching orders, but it was actually a very difficult spot to put the player in. Lorenzen is cool and calm though and came through nicely. Classy person. If he was at fault I have no doubt he could have handled questions effectively.
On Cabella's:
Lieutenant Paul Vance talked to us and let's just say --disaster is looming. Get to the game early. If the exit ramp gets blocked up they are going to wave you past. They won't allow traffic to build up on the highway. Double your estimated arrival time.
Lots open at 3 p.m. Get there early. If your going to try and parachute in after work it is going to be a nightmare.
The state, university, East Hartford, and everyone else not buying hunting gear isn't happy with Cabella's.
BTW, why does Cabella do this? Marketing genius.
Cabella's is getting free advertising on every major media outlet in the state. Every newspaper tomorrow will have a story on the traffic caused by Cabella's soft opening. (the officalgran opening is in a couple of weeks).
What does that do? First off, you learn Cabella's is opening Friday and that there is a Cabella's in East Hartford next to Rentschler Field. Then you learn that it is very popular.
What more advertising do you need? For free, Cabella's gets to let people know where they are located, that they are very popular, and what kind of store it is.
Genius.
Great corporate citizens, huh?
You got to remember, Cabela's will draw between 15,000 -30,000, Pratt and Whiteny is getting off work, the fans are coming in, and there is a rush hour traffic that will slow Hartford to a crawl.
