Stuck in Philly -- yeah

Was thinking of just taking the rental and driving home Saturday night. Would have been home by 3 a.m. or 4 a.m.

Instead, my 9:30 a.m. to Charlottesville is delayed because the pilot needed another half hour of sleep per FAA regulations (they knew last night, why not let me know so I could have gotten on United before it was booked, or drive to Dulles?). So, my 11:30 connector from Philly is in jeopardy. It's an hour flight, so it is supposed to depart at 10:15 a.m. The pilot jerks around checking controls and takes off at 10:30.

We land in Philly at 11:30. The gates are right next to each other, a 20 feet walk. Plane is pulling out of the gate as I and Waterbury's Ed Daigneault try and see if we made it. Missed the connector by 10 minutes (LITERALLY). Nice job U.S. Air. Now I got a 2 1/2 hour lay over.

Should have took United.

Of course, the UConn football team was home in bed by 10 p.m. on Saturday night. Gotta be nice to charter.

Anyhow, here is the game story from the JI website.

On second thought, I thought UConn played well but they may be kicking themselves at the end of the season. Too many missed opportunities on offense to feel good about how you played.

6-0 looks a whole lot better than 5-1. More after the 4 p.m. conference call -- if I make it (70 percent chance I blow it).
