Thursday thoughts

If your a college football fan, you gotta be watching USF-Rutgers. I plan on having the Rutgers game on and keeping a tab on Red Sox-Indians. If the Red Sox are about to be eliminated however, it's going on my HD channel and I will celebrate. If Sox are up, keeping it on the Rutgers game.

I am picking USF, I think quarterbacks wins games like this and Grothe is as good as they come. I will also pat myself on the back for picking USF to win the league (don't worry, I thought Louisville would finish second at 10-2, so I am not that smart).

I am interested in Rutgers. I haven't seen them play like they did last year (didn't see the Cuse game) and there comes a point when last year is over and you got to start playing this year. I get a sense people are still putting a lot of stock in 2006 for Rutgers. If they get the doors blown off by USF, that will end quickly. This is a must win for Rutgers. They lose this one and they can kiss the top 3 positions in the Big East goodbye. I think Louisville is going to rebound and finish third in the league. That leaves Cincy, Rutgers and UConn fighting out for 4-6. A 5th or 6th place finish is disastrous for Rutgers considering the preseason expectation. I think a strong 4th would be fine. If the Scarlets Knights go 4-3 and are in 4th, and they started out 1-2 in conference, that would be a good rebound.

Rutgers wins tonight? Team to be reckon with.

Anyhow, had a battle with Comcast last night (cable companies are the worst). Some dope didn't put the Celtics-Knicks preseason game on in Connecticut. Now, it's preseason, but there was nothing else on and I was annoyed. Can people just do their job correctly? This shows how silly the cable industry is. If I want Comcast Sportsnet New England in high definition, I have to go to directtv. That's right, Comcast doesn't offer Comcast Sportsnet HD. I can't think of one reason to have cable over satellite except for bundled price and convenience (in a condo, satellite is a pain). It really is an inferior product.

Now onto UConn, sorry didn't post yesterday I had some other business to tend to. Listened to the teleconference on Wednesday late and there were some good nuggets.

Brown's going to play, thought Dixon start and get a lot of action. It's about production, but I wouldn't bury Brown just yet. I think he just needs to be patient and clear his head. He has tremendous power, and that is what Dixon doesn't have.

Aaron Bagsby gone for the year is no a surprise. The kid hasn't played since the first game, and with the return of Dahna Deleston this summer it is probably best he gets that extra year. He's a playmaker and will be a good player.

Plan on heading to Cabella's on Friday. Maybe to yell at them, or probably just to be one of those people.

I agree John, the Rutgers/USF game will also take precedence in my house. We are heading up to the game tomorrow. May have to stop in at Cabela's to get some rain gear. What a great idea for a grand opening, but boy will it be a mess.
