Live Game thread Louisville

Pregame: Got to Rent not much problem. Ran into traffic through Hartford. It's probably a mess now.

It's raining here, and the harder the better for the Huskies. It's going to be a wet night anyway, the Hsskies got to hope that will help slow down Brohm and Co.

Update: It's raining buckets (love that metaphor). Looks like it is going to let up, but the field is soaked. Who does that help? Not sure. If Brohm has troubling holding the ball UConn, if he can't throw it where he wants, it's going to be tough to guard them.

Made the mistake of trying to visit a friend. Got soaked through my clothes.

BTW, wind is whipping 20 MPH from student section end to scoreboard. That way. Rain is picking up again. I am so happy I am inside.

More later, if anything breaks before game time.

I know the fans come late. But, this place should be at least 90 percent capacity.

Update 7:35 p.m.: Bunch of changes for Louisville. I can't even keep track . Depth chart is blown up. NO Harry Douglas or Mario Urrutia in the starting lineup.

Here are the changes: Scott Long and Patrick Carter in for Douglas and Urrutia. Right guard change with Abdul Kuyateh over MIke Donoghue and a change at running back with Brock Bolen in instead of Anthony Allen. On defense, changes at defensive end, and the backup is in at RCB, Woody Turenne.

For Huskies -- Andre Dixon will start. That's it.

Update (7:46 p.m.): 14 minutes until gametime, the place is empty. Coming off seeing Virginia (I know, perfect weather), this doesn't cut it. They had 60,000 in the building 10 minutes before the game. There is about 1000 people in the building.

First quarter

Three fumbles on opening drive, and finally it cost them. Keys to the game. Fumble at the Louisville 15.

HMM. Let's see. 3 fumbles on the opening drive finally lose it in the red zone. Okay, shanked punt gives Louisville the ball on the 39. Then a third down sacked inside the 10 but a facemask. Next play 2-yard touchdown.

7-0 Cardinals. That about sums it up. end of first.

Second quarter

7-0 at half.

Missed opportunities and missed chances. 20 of first 21 plays were runs. Fourth down call with Donald Brown right call, bad pitch by Lorenzen. Team 's toughest opponent is itself. First and 20 and Louisville made a first down, then a 1st and 25 and they made a first down. All poor tackling. Nice INT by Butler on trick play and Huskies have two timeouts, down 7-0 and backed up with 2:16 left in the half. Four straight runs to end the half.

7-0.

The weather is a major factor here, but you got to show confidence in your team. I don't feel Randy Edsall is showing confidence in his team. Especially after pushing the first down across the first time. UConn never took a shot.

To sum up half. Two red zone opportunities, ZERO points.

Here are the negative plays:

3 fumbles, a shanked punt, a face mask on a sack on third down that would have forced a short field goal, a roughing the passer for a first down, unable to convert on third and shot, holding penalty killed a 9-yard run,and two missed tackles allowing Louisville to convert third and long and play field position late in the second quarter.

Third quarter

Umm, fair catch? What is the official doing? I don't get it. Some explanation is needed. Not reviewable I guess. 74 punt return for a TD. 7-7.

Almost run it back, but there is a flag. I got to get a ruling. That is as bad as an officials call as I have ever seen.

Update (9:48 p.m.): Fair catch not reviewable. Horrible possession after Lutrus INT. Just bad offense.

3rd wrap: Officials have lost control. embarrassing performance by student section and others throwing hats onto the field. Brohm is starting to get into a rhythm.
