We had good Randy Edsall this week. When it gets a big game Edsall seems to tighten up and get ultra intense. He was sour last Tuesday -- still professional-- but moody. Maybe it was the national media crush last week, ESPNU, or the fact it was the biggest game in his coaching career. I don't know.
Anyhow, this isn't US Weeky (which I love to read) so I'll move on...
He was in a good mood on Tuesday and answered everything with some thought. We even found out he doesn't like football (not his favorite sport as a kid). Obviosuly, he likes it now, but it wasn't his first love, or second love for that matter (hoops). He wanted to play baseball as a kid, and was a good hitter (according to him) and outfielder. He also pitched and had a good fastball, but couldn't get it near the plate. Almost quit football to play golf his sophomore year of high school.
But, football came calling and he went to Cuse and the rest is history.
As far as this week? Not much news. Edsall declined on talking about Lou Allen, but did say that he "Loves Lou to death." What he did and whether he will ever be back in unknown.
Cincinnati is +15 on turnovers and has forced 34! UConn has forced 23. This will decide the game.
No changes on the depth chart, but I would expect Donald Brown and Andre Dixon to split carries. Whoever gets hot gets the bulk of the load. That is the best way to do it.
Tyvon Branch asked to do kickoff this year. He was a disaster his freshmen year and had many fumbles. He asked Edsall to do it this summer. Edsall gave him a sho and he is only leading the country in kickoff return average. He also has a pair of touchdowns run back and nearly had a third.
Branch said he ran 10.4 100 meters in intramurals last spring. 10.4 at 195 pounds! Get this....no starting blocks! If that's accurate that is phenomenal speed. He ran 10.6 in high school. Just flat out fast.
Who do you kick to on kickoffs? Branch or LT?
That would keep me up at night.
