Post game thoughts

Wow.

Randy Edsall was pretty emotional in the postgame. We forget how hard these guys work at it and what effort they put in. Especially to get UConn here, it has been a long road.

Dan Davis certainly respects the coach's effort. He said Edsall was sleeping at the Burton Complex during summer camp. Other coach's would have their families visit in the cafeteria to have dinner.

You don't go 9-2 by accident. The Huskies have earned every bit of it. If Cincinnati wins tonight UCONN CLINCHES a share of the Big East title.

If WVU wins (what I would prefer), then it is for all the marbles next week. That is drama. THE BCS bid is what you want.

Anyhow, got a lot of work to do an was going to check in with a couple of things, First off, it is going to be an ABC game next week at either 3:30 or late (7 or 8). Not yet known what the coverage is going to be. Could be national.

The team is excited. Not satisfied, but excited. Getting a one game shot is the most an athlete can ask for. UConn has that chance, and that is all they have ever wanted.

John, how does the Big East rank against the other major conferences? I am suprised that the big east was able to retain a BCS spot after the defections from previous years. I see Uconn is 9-2, but is it the same standard as Big 10, SEC, ACC, etc....?

I think the Big East is comparable to the major conferences.

The problem is there are only 8 teams in it. There aren't enough games and variety for everyone to get a good idea.

It's not the SEC and top heavy, and it isn't as good as the PAC-10, but West Virginia is as good a program as you will find. Louisville is also a very good program and Pitt and Cuse have a lot of tradition and will both be good eventually. The league gets to the next level if schools like UConn and Rutgers continue to be good.

USF looks to be a modern day Miami. Remember the humble origins of Fla State and Miami.

What's missing in the Big East is the name. I think the Big 10 is terrible, and has been the last 5 years. After Ohio State and Michigan, the rest of the conference (including PSU) have been middling at best.

But, the Big 10 has name teams. Who thinks Iowa, Michigan State or Purdue would finish second in the Big East?

The Big East is in no danger of losing its BCS slot. Unless WVU falters and no one steps up, then the champion is always going to be top 12.

The Big East is much better than CUSA, the WAC and the Mountain West. That makes a difference. If USF didn't lay an egg for 3 straight weeks they would probably be headed to two BCS teams.

Here is the truth. No program (even Syracuse) is as bad as Duke is. I would say that Mississippi State and Vanderbilt would also be lower tier teams in the Big East. Same with Northwestern and Indiana.

As long as Cuse comes back, I don't see that longtime doormat in this conference.

I think UConn is a legit top 30 team this year. Probably closer to 30 than 15, but that's okay. I would say UConn would be competitive in th ACC. I don't think BC and Va Tech blow them out of the water. UConn is better than Virgina (which UConn should have beat), which is 9-2 and in the ACC.

I think in the last two years the Big East has proven it can play with the best conferences in the country.

I think the Big East is better than the ACC before the raid. Florida State won the conference every year. No one ever had a shot. It won't be like that for WVU.

It takes time for this to shake out. Look at the teams, not the names on the uniforms. USF is as talented as any team around outside of LSU and Florida.

Oops. Forget to put USC in there. That's the most talented team in country.
