Live Game Cincinnati thread

Pregame: Nice stadium, right at the heart of campus. Small press box. This is a college feel, love it.

Anyhow, the Brut Sun Bowl is here again and the representative is here passing around pamphlets on the Sun Bowl. UConn will probably lock up that bowl berth with a win today. But, UConn has to think BCS right about now.

First quarter

Desi Cullen fan club is here. One sign -- "I want to nail the hammer."

Update: Mauck 1 yard TD pass. Bad kick by Cullen to open game and return to Cincy 46. 54 yards in 8 plays. 7-0 Cincy.

Update (4:04 p.m.): Lamagdelaine out with left knee or ankle. Lawrence Green in.

Update 4:12 p.m: Disaster of a first quarter offensively. Getting beat on the line and Lorenzen can't get anything going passing. INT was an accident. Tipped ball, but the O-line didn't get the defenders down. Not looking good. Donald Brown 1 carry? Andre Dixon 0 carries?

Mauck 6-yard TD pass. 13-0 Cincinnati thanks to the INT turnover inside the 10. UConn is major trouble.

1st wrap: Worst quarter of football of the year. Only two carries from the RBs. 37 yards of total offense. Mike Hicks can't handle handle Anthony Hoke's speed. The turnover off a tipped pass is a killer. 13-0. Not looking good. No push on the 0-line.

Second quarter

Update (4:41 p.m.): 4th and 11 and throw a 5 yard pass? It's just not smart football. Penalties, no consistency on offense, and just plain bad play. Defense has done its job, but offense was left in Storrs.

Update (4:56 p.m): UConn on the board. Of course it is the patented 22 yard field goal. Little outsmarting of yourself on first down with no running backs and D.J. in the backfield. It was a bad play. Second down run gets 2. Then third down pass under pressure sails incomplete. 13-3. Another missed opportunity.

Uggh. Bonehead late hit by Lindsey Witten keeps drive alive. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes....

Halftime wrap. 13-3. UConn offense showed a little bit of life late in the half. But, it's one drive inside the 10 forced another field goal. UConn has flirted with disaster a couple of times. Hail Mary at end of half was dropped by Cincy.

Huskies have to feel fortunate they are only down 13-3.

For all the total yardage people: Cincy 151, UConn 147. Meaningless. Cincy has outplayed UConn clearly.

Third quarter

Update 5:31: First huskies drive -- 3 and out. Illegal formation penalty negates a 12 yard pass on first down.

Update 5:41: Second 3 and out. once again another 5-yard penalty helped caused the demise. Jeffers dropped a 20 yard plus catch on third down. The UConn receivers got to start making plays here.

Update 5:47: 3rd and 14. Had pressure couldn't stop Mauck. 20 yard pass. Could be ballgame there. UConn showing no signs of life on offense.

Mauck 11-yard TD run a draw. 20-3. That should do it.

Third roundup: UConn is getting physically manhandeled on offense. Only one first down and the offense can't move the ball. Defense is exhausted. This is going to get ugly real soon.

Fourth quarter

That's all she wrote. Mauck 38-yard TD pass. 27-3. See you in the post game.

Wrap: 27-3 final. Complete and total victory by the Bearcts. Uconn 22 yards rushing.

Yes. They get there if they win their last 2. But, you got to put the horse before the cart.

They got to beat Syracuse next week and then take your best shot at WVU Nov. 24.

Right now though, not sure if Sun Bowl takes a 9-3 UConn team.
