First domino falls

According to the Cincinnati Post's Josh Katzowitz's blog, USF is headed to the Sun Bowl.

Sun Bowl chairman John Folmer in the Post:

"It was a pretty heated meeting," Folmer said. "We had a lot of people that were Cincinnati people. A lot of people were for USF."

What does that mean?

Well I talked to Will Webb of the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte (see, spelled right) and he said the committee can make a decision as soon as tomorrow. The committee meets at 6 p.m. and will go for a couple of hours. He said they would be all set to sort this out Tuesday. He called the Big East around 8 p.m., and heard no word about the Sun so he figured this might drag on for a couple of days.

He was very surprised the Sun Bowl took USF this early (I broke the news to him per Katzowitz' blog). He has talked to reporters who told him that the Sun was going to take Cincinnati or Rutgers.

The committee met today and this is what Webb had to say Monday night.

"We are not in a position to make a decision. But we will be tomorrow. I will get with the Big East (and talk) and UConn is high on our radar.

"We talked a lot about UConn's record and who they played and who beat who and final rankings. We have another meeting on the calender tomorrow.

"Randy Edsall and Jeff Hathaway are a class program all the way around. They are high on our radar."

It looks as if this will probably come down tomorrow. Sun Bowl will get an official invitation tomorrow afternoon to USF, and next to fall in line is the Meineke.

Charlotte or Birmingham, likely to know tomorrow.

It looks like the Car Casre Bowl has made a decision and is going to make us wait. Should we be worried? What's your gut feeling? Or better yet...do you have any inside info?

A smiley face response is all we need. (grin)

No inside info. And, yes, you should be worried because this is 50-50.

UConn isn't sure which way it is going to go. Maybe Hathaway and Edsall do, but, they aren't going to talk or let it out.

I just talked to Will Webb of the Meineke Car Care Bowl, and they are going to wait for the Sun Bowl officially and then either today or tomorrow let everyone know.

They have not contacted any schools.

My gut? Not Charlotte, but that comes with no inside knowledge and no one has said anything. I am pessimistic by nature however.

Thanks John but I said all we needed was a smiley face. (grin)

It is what it is. Whatever it is we need to get a huge turnout so next year we won't be in this position.
