Travel thoughts

If you don't want to wait for UConn's travel package, or are just plain scared of the cost of being a part of a chartered flight, here are some essential websites:

For plane fare. Don't struggle with a hundred different websites, and don't fret about going to orbiz, travelocity etc. It will take you all day. Use this for all your travel and hotel searching. It's the best place to start at least.

Go here: http://www.kayak.com.

It finds fares almost everywhere. Southwest doesn't fly into Charlotte, so don't bother. Bradley is a bit of a nightmare. Cheap flights are a little under $400 but it isn't convenient. US Air was something like $700 up. Jet Blue out of JFK is the cheapest.

Other bowl websites to remember are UConnbowl.com and meinekecarcarebowl.com.

Here is why airlines make little sense. I have to leave from Bradley early Dec. 26 to get to practice etc. There is a 6:35 a.m. flight out of Bradley to Charlotte. The roundtrip comes back at over $700 dollars. But, I have to get that flight.

When you go to book, it breaks down the fare by flight, it's $442 to take that flight. I check a one-way flight from Bradley, same flight, and the cost of the ticket is $442. So then I book a multiple destination trip. I am going from Bradley (same flight) and then on the 30th back to JFK. Well, low and behold the cost of the one way if I take a return to JFK is $225. What?

So, anyhow, I preliminary booked that flight to come back to JFK, though I will probably switch the return flight sometime and never make the return trip on that flight. It would cost the same if I took a one way on USair (had to be on that particular flight) and had no return trip. What's the difference? I don't know. No wonder airlines need a bailout every 10 years or so.

Good luck everyone.
