Man arrested in Jasper Howard murder

Man Arrested in Howard murder.

Nice to see some movement in this case. Still so many questions.

STORRS — Police today charged a 21-year-old Bloomfield man with murder in the fatal stabbing of University of Connecticut star cornerback Jasper T. Howard.

The man, John William Lomax III of Bloomfield, was held in lieu of $2 million bond and is to be arraigned Wednesday in Vernon Superior Court, UConn and state police announced at an afternoon news conference on campus.

Police also charged another Bloomfield man who lives on the same street as Lomax — Hakim Muhammad, 20, of Barry Circle — with conspiracy to commit first-degree assault in connection with the stabbings of Howard and a fellow football player outside UConn’s Student Union building on Oct. 18. He was held in lieu of $750,000 bond.

Muhammad also is to appear Wednesday in Vernon Superior Court.
