Thursday injury update -- No Lutrus

In a non-surprise, Scott Lutrus is out for Saturday's game against URI. Randy Edsall said it's the training staff telling him that he is out, but I got a feeling if it was the Orange Bowl he would be in there (just a hunch).

I am all for holding him out. He sat out the previous two games, no need to expose him to punishment Saturday. He has already missed two games and with an FCS team and a bye week, the prudent course is to hold him out and not expose him to future injury and let him heal fully. Of course, no one can say that because that would mean that UConn is "overlooking" Rhode Island (the horror). It's a game now, and that's fine, but  how does he go from questionable to out without getting re-injured?

You don't. Opponent determines how much you are going to push him, and there is no need for Lutrus to play Saturday. I just can't write it any other way. The benefit of having Lutrus in there is not worth the risk of further injury against an FCS team. They should handle Rhode Island anyway.

I don't get why UConn can't say we are holding Lutrus out just to get him more rest for the long season. By saying we want Lutrus to be fully healed does in no way diminish Rhode Island. You want to respect your opponent, but don't overdue it. Don't elevate your opponent beyond what they are.  To me, it's patronizing.

UConn can take Rhode Island seriously and be smart at the same time.

That said, Sio Moore, Mike Smith, Kashif Moore or probable. Lindsey Witten has had the GI (stomach virus) but is a go. The usual suspects are out including Frazer and Griffin,
