I talked to a representative from Northland today and they confirmed that there is talk of bringing a UFL team to Hartford and perhaps Rentschler Field.
It was stressed that this is in the preliminary stages, extremely preliminary.
Here is a statment from Northland Investment Co. (which manages Rentschler Field and the XL Center):
Northland Investment Corporation has been negotiating for the acquisition
of a United Football League franchise.
We are excited about the new league's prospects and will continue to explore
Northland's potential involvement in the UFL.
Due to the confidential nature of the negotiations, at this time, none of
the stakeholders involved in Rentchler Field have been included in the
discussions. It is not certain whether the franchise will be Hartford based
and it is entirely premature to state that the team will be playing at
Rentchler Field.
