First quarter
Update 7:40: Darius Butler 85 yard TD return negated by penalty. WOW. Penalty, but still wow. Are you kidding me?
Update7:43 p.m: Butler's TD is returned, a three in out by UConn, then a muffed punt. Donald Brown goes in from a yard for a TF. 7-0 UConn, 1:54 in.
Update 8:01: Scott Lutrus INT. Brown carrying the team. 8 rushes 58 yards 2 tds. Nice night already.
1st quarter wrap: Not a crisp first quarter. UConn up 14-0, but the passing game doesn't look in synch. Also, two touchdowns called back because of holding. Another holding penalty hurt a big gain and a costly late hit. UConn is going to win big, but a little sloppy to open the game despite the score. Brown 86 yards on 14 carries in the first quarter! Should have 3TDs and maybe even more than that.
Second quarter
Update 8:34: UConn defense giving up too many third and long conversions. Have to get more of a pass rush. Passing game needs to get in gear. Not crisp at all.
Update 8:46: The passing game looks awful. Riding Brown, 18 carries in only the first half. There you go! Kashif Moore first college catch. Donald Brown 19 yard TD. Hey, Donald Brown is a pretty good back. 19 carries, 128 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the first half. Should have 4. 21-0 UConn.
Update 8:58 pm: Donald Brown his 4th TD of the half. 20 carries, 130 yards. Yeah, that's a workhorse back. 28-0 UConn.
Third quarter
Update 9:40: Lorenzen INT in the endzone. Awful pass, making poor decisions. He has two interceptions tonight, six of all last year. Defense stiffens in the redzone, and the Huskies lead 28-3.
WOW! Lorenzen another INT. He had Gaulden open on the right side, wide open, and threw a pick. That's three interceptions. Not inspiring much confidence.
Update 9: 50 pm.: Cody Endres warming up on sidelines.
Fourth quarter
Update 10:10 p.m.: Lorenzen 14-of-25 for 184 yards and 3 INTs. He was pulled in the fourth quarter for Cody Endres. Could have been performance, could have been score. Not very encouraging. Robbie Frey got his first career TD.
Brown was good rest of the offense was ho-hum. Defensive line was good, but still lost contain on scrambles.
Will wrap-up very late.
1 comment:
Donald Brown was the centerpiece of the offense, if not for him this game would have had a very different look. Lorenzen's performance was ugly, 3 int's against Hofstra!
As always excellent work on the coverage of the game! looking forward to the rest of the season
