UConn has come a long way

In the span of doing research found this story, Sept. 5 1999 from the New York Times.

Connecticut, inspired by its first post-season appearance in school history last year, began its final season in Division I-AA tonight with a new coach and dreams of future success in Division I-A.

But the Huskies showed they are not ready for the big time just yet. Hofstra, which is in Division I-AA, was sparked by three touchdown passes from Giovanni Carmazzi and two defensive touchdowns by Robert Thomas to defeat UConn, 56-17, before a record crowd of 9,381 at Hofstra Stadium.

First game as UConn coach he was destroyed 56-17. Now, coming off a share of the Big East title the Huskies get to return the favor. When you step back and look at it, the progress is absolutely remarkable.
