Becomes first Husky to earn AP All-America honors in FBS era
STORRS, Conn. (December 16, 2008) - University of Connecticut junior running back Donald Brown (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.) was named Second Team All-America on Tuesday by the Associated Press. It is the second All-America honors for Brown as he was named Second Team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation last week. He was also named the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST last week.
Brown becomes the first UConn football player to be named to an All-America team since the program was elevated to the Football Bowl Subdivision (former Division I-A) in 2002.
Shonn Green of Iowa and Javon Ringer of Michigan State were the first team running backs while Brown was joined on the second team by Knowshon Moreno of Georgia. Kendall Hunter of Oklahoma State and Jacquizz Rodgers of Oregon State were on the third team.
Brown rushed for 1,822 yards and 17 touchdowns during the regular season and has been atop the national leader board in rushing yards (151.8 yards per game) for the majority of the year. He ran for at least 100 yards in 10 games.
