Yes, Donald Brown said it.
"Yeah, we can explore the options, see what they have to say, but I'm coming back. My goal is to go to the Orange Bowl. That's what I want to do, and next year will be my last shot."
I think Donald is speaking with his heart here. UConn coach Randy Edsall is going to continue to gather information and I would hope in January he makes an informed decision.
Brown has been increasingly uncomfortable around the media in the last month. Perhaps he is tired of us (wouldn't blame him), or perhaps he is feeling the pressure. Or maybe he is just sick of talking and talking about the same thing.
I was listening to WFAN on the way home and they announced Brown was staying. Let's just say that this isn't an official release and UConn and Brown are going to go through the motions in January.
Brown has not liked talking about the NFL. If you listen to my recording you can sense the uneasiness in his voice. I don't think he is ready for this talk yet and it kind of jumped at him.
One thing I don't think Brown realizes is that he is considered one of the top 4 running backs in the country. He and Iowa's Shonn Green were heads and shoulders above everyone else. That means when he tells 2 or 3 reporters that he is coming back it makes national news. He doesn't appreciate that yet.
Perhaps he has been in his own bubble and doesn't realize that he is a star. This is big news. He becomes a Heisman front runner next year.
Maybe Brown was tired on Monday, but he didn't look like he was enjoying himself at all. He is the nations leading rusher, he should be enjoying his time in the limelight. He earned it. He hasn't enjoyed himself the last month (at least with the media) since he was a Doak Walker semifinalist.
Got to pay the bills, see you later,
