Tuesday presser -- avalanche of info

Information overload on Tuesday at UConn. Where do we start, not enough space to put in the paper,though I am going to try(I get to run the paper for tomorrow anyway. Hmm ,like being writer and editor.).

First news is that the QB position is still unknown.

Zach Frazer is recovering from a "head injury" and the staff is not classifying it as a concussion using a more broad term to describe the injury. Yes, a concussion is a head injury. But until a I hear it from the horses mouth (the doctor), Zach, or UConn, I can't classify it as a concussion.

He is still questionable for Saturday. Cody Endres is the backup. I get the sense that this is truthful. UConn is going to evaluate Frazer today and on Wednesday and Thursday to see if he can go.

If there was a starter today for UConn? Probably Endres. UConn is going to see how Frazer progresses. He is going to class, so he is alert enough to actually do school-work.

I should address the unavailability of Frazer and Endres to the media. Edsall said that Frazer has class on Tuesday and it's impossible for him to make the Tuesday interviews without a major effort. Other arrangements will be made as requested however, and as long as the requests are taken seriously, I don't think access will be an issue. At least I am willing to work a little harder and head up to Storrs on Wednesday if necessary (actually, it would work out better.Prefer to space interviews out). As far as Endres, Edsall is pulling the Frazer thing from pre-Carolina because he may start. Kind of silly if you ask me, but, to each his own.

More will be known Thursday. I think that is an honest assessment of the situation.

Third or second string is mystery man Johnny McEntee, walk-on from California. No D.J. Hernandez back to QB -- not going to happen. In perhaps the funniest exchanges at the lunch was Edsall answering questions about Johnny. At one point Edsall had to remind that McEntee is the third-string right now. A little too much McEntee questioning (I asked the final one of course). Casey Turner is not in the equation. McEntee is no Matt Vollono however. He is a preferred walk-on and has some ability.

Dave Teggart will start as kicker for the Huskies over Tony C. Tony C is a standup guy, and took questions before he had to dodge for class. Tony C. class act, was on Saturday after missing three kicks, and was on Tuesday. Tony C. is taking it all right however. Got to speak to Teggart today.

He comes in to the cafeteria and is mobbed by 15 media members. He couldn't believe it but held up well. He was a soccer player when he was young, and his father got him into kicking (pops kicked at New Hampshire). Big strong legs for Teggart, he has very thick legs. Feels comfortable under 55 yards. Kicked 48 yarders in high school.

Edsall addressed two controversial calls on Saturday. He sent in the film on the Martin Bedard pass interference call and the Donald Brown safety. The Brown safety was the decisive play in the game and on further review he was never down in the endzone.

That's a serious error on the officials part in my opinion. Edsall didn't have a good look of a play on the ground, and the Huskies don't have the benefit of replay in the booth like they do in the NFL. So, the coach may challenge the play blindly, or the replay booth can call the play. How that play didn't meet the standard of review is beyond me. Clearly, Brown didn't touch the ground in the endzone. Edsall didn't find this out definitively until he watched film.
