Pregame Cincinnati

What a difference a couple of weeks make. When we last left Rentschler Field the Huskies were looking at competing for a BCS berth. Now, a loss today and the Huskies got to be careful about qualifying for a bowl.

Is there any sport that is as life or death as college football? If Tony C's kick goes through the uprights then UConn is 6-1, and looking at a chance to go 3-0 in the Big East with a showdown against West Virginia next week.

But, it hits the upright and now you are holding out hope for the International Bowl.

The margin of error for UConn is so slim. Shockingly slim.

Vibe today? I don't like the feel of today.

QB talk? I will eat my hat if Zach Frazer plays.

Update 10:25 am: See Endres, Johnny McEntee and Tyler Lorenzen throwing the ball in warmups. Tyler looks like he is walking fine. Maybe it will only be a couple of more weeks, as opposed to months. Endres warming up intently.

Update 11:22 am: Zach Frazer is in uniform and pads and was working with Tony C. I am assuming he is going to be the backup holder on kicks to Desi Cullen.

Youkilis sighting: Saw Red Sox 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis on the sidelines. He had a Bearcats hat. I can't tell you how happy it was for me to see him here while the World Series is going on.

Bowl talk: Got some nice info on how the Bowl games work courtesy of Big East's assistant AD John Paquette. Notre Dame can be selected to the Gator or Sun instead of a Big East team if they are within two games of the Big East team. Meaning, a 9-3 Big East team can be bumped for a 7-5 Irish team in the Gator or Sun if need be. A 10-2 team can't be bumped from a 7-5 team, but can from an 8-4 team. Simple enough. Notre Dame has Pittsburgh next week.Root for the Panthers.

Meineke is N0. 3 on the list, and the rest of the bowl selections are kind of done by fit. There is no definitive order meaning its unlikely Cincinnati ends up in Birmingham again, or Rutgers is Toronto. It's more thought out than that.

As far as Gator/Sun, it's too early to see the way they are leaning, but the Big 12 is so strong this year that it might behoove the Gator to go Big 12 again (my analysis, not Paquette's). In the way, the Sun getsBig East or Notre Dame. That would mean next year Gator MUST take Big East or Notre Dame.

Considering the strength of the Big 12,I am assuming the Gator will go Big 12. They may be able to get Missouri, Texas Tech or Kansas. Even better if only one Big 12 team makes the BCS.

Update 11:32 am: Mr. Frazer is warming up and throwing the ball in pregame rituals. Hmm...salt for my hat?

Update 11:37 am: Endres and McEntee working with the offenses and taking snaps. No Frazer.
