Anyhow, if you don't have a Google Alert for UConn football your missing something. I found a terrific piece on Dave Teggart in the Globe on Thursday.
Anytime there is a UConn football story or blog entry I get it. There is a lot of garbage out there, but the news links are valuable.
Some other interesting info I found on the alerts:
As we now know the Michigan-UConn buyout for 2013 is $2 million according to the Freep. In other words, Michigan is playing the game. I know there are skeptics who think they might skip out in 2013, but that's just being parnoid. No organization gives up $2 million for nothing. How much does Michigan take in per game? Surely 100,000 seats is a lot of revenue, but they would essentially have to make up $2.4 million just to break even bagging UConn and playing a home game against and FCS team.
The Wolverines are coming unless something happens (or UConn gets too good).
Check out a Gator Bowl eulogy (that's how it reads anyways) on the Big East and the Gator Bowl in the Charleston Daily Mail. Here is what I found interesting at the end.
It mentioned the Sun Bowl choosing the ACC and here is a nugget.
Nick Carparelli, the Big East's associate commissioner for football operations, said Thursday that the conference isn't backing away from the Sun until he's told the news reports on Sun/ACC turn into a signed deal.
There has been little out of the Big East since the Sun Bowl went away. I had strong vibes in the conference that the Sun Bowl was on board. In Newport they were confident. I haven't heard much from the Big East since. Perhaps all hope is not lost.
Ohh did I forget to pimp my own stuff?
Jasper Howard in today's JI.
STORRS — Jasper Howard came up from the cornerback position and had his sights firmly on hotshot freshman receiver Dwayne Difton during University of Connecticut football practice on Thursday.
UConn’s junior corner went for the tackle, only to run into a Difton stiff-arm that would have made a running back proud.
Howard didn’t finish the play lying on his back He wasn’t going to let the freshman get the best of him and went after Difton out of bounds, laying a hit on him that drew some “oohs and ahhs” from the players on the sideline. The pair got up and engaged in some mild trash-talking.
