Whack the Poinsetta off the list

There has been several scenarios that a Big East team could have headed to the Poinsetta Bowl in San Diego if a Pac 10 team didn't qualify for the game (likely, No. 7 in Pac 10 won't be over .500)).

If the Big East loses the Gator Bowl to Notre Dame, that leaves a dearth of bowl games to go around with the BCS, Meineke, Papajohns, Toronto and the New Tampa Bowl. That's five games for what could be 6 teams qualifying (I am assuming Rutgers and Cincinnati are out).

So, the thought was to match a MWC team with a Big East team by default. That is off the table. The Poinsetta Bowl signed a deal with the WAC that was announced today that is in effect for 2008 and 2009. If a Pac 10 team is not eligible for that game, a WAC team will get the bid next.

This sets up a possible 6-6 WAC team getting in over say a 7-5 Big East team. If this deal wasn't signed, then the Poinsetta Bowl would have to take the 7-5 team.

Does the Big East still have the deal to replace the Big Ten team in the Motor City Bowl if there aren't enough Big Ten teams??

And what's up with the Texas Bowl? I know Rutgers was there 2 years ago...is that not a Big East option anymore?

Let's hope these scenarios apply to Louisville and not UConn.

Sean O, don't think the Motor City Bowl is an option (by god, a Xmas travel day, I hope not).

The Texas Bowl is not an option, that was a one time thing if I remember correctly. I'll check.
