UConn was humbled tonight. 38-12 on national TV. It's a difficult loss for a proud program.
I can't put my finger on why. Frazer was good and bad, but I don't think he won or lost this game with his mistakes, though the first INT was a killer. The game was over by the time for the third INT that was returned for a TD.
First off, the punting was inexplicable. Three times it is blocked? Are you kidding me? Randy Edsall said it was technique (of course it always is), and Cullen said there were mental breakdowns. It was stunning the incompetence in that regard. Desi did say he was taking a little longer than usual because he was angling it to keep away from Brandon Tate.
The penalties were also disturbing. 11 penalties for 97 yards. Too much. It is uncharacteristic of this team.
Defensively, UConn did a decent job on the UNC offense, but the circumstances were so difficult. They handed UNC 21 points. Can't win doing that.
What's amazing is that UConn ran 89 plays, to UNC's 49. UConn had a yardage advantage and a 10 minute TOP advantage. So what?
The Huskies were desperate to make one play on offense, and really couldn't do it. The wide receiver corps needs to improve. Frazer will get the ball down there if they get open. He got the ball to D.J. nicely today for 103 yards.
It's a disheartening loss for the Huskies. This was a good measuring stick, and they came up short.
Brown's 161 yards were nice, but he was in no mood after the game.
"I am (angry). I hate losing,"Brown said.
They have to go back to the drawing board. There were some many negative plays that UConn never gave itself a chance at pulling off the upset. UNC is bigger and pushed UConn around, but they were right in it in the third quarter. They just lacked some playmakers on offense and defense. Someone had to do something, UConn never got any momentum, and that was too much to overcome.
I don't think UNC dominated. That's what made this all the more disappointing. UNC just let UConn self-destruct.

I agree with everything you wrote except UNC pushing UConn around. Without UConn self-destructing, they are winning or tied at halftime. UNC's offense could do very little and UConn's offense was moving the ball only to be stopped by turnovers or penalties.
I think those were two very evenly matched teams but UConn, for whatever reason, laid an egg.
It's a good loss if such a thing exists. It wasn't a conference game and the Big East is there for the taking. They have a bye week to regroup and a game against what appears to be a bad Rutgers team before coming home. As long as they beat Rutgers, they'll come home 6-1 and in first place. I don't care about national respect...this team has the potential (key word) to win the Big East.
The Big East cannot compete with the ACC.
When the nACC actually wins a BCS bowl this millenium Ms. Anonymous, then you can talk about the prowess of other leagues. Until then, it would be wise for nACC homers to remain silent on the matter.
