A little late blogging but got a good feel of things at the Shenkman Center today. Donald Thomas and Tyvon branch are headed to the Hula Bowl. Now, thats a pretty good way to end your career.
For a guy like Thomas, it is an incredible ride. He didn't play high school football and now he is an NFL prospect? Thomas is going to graduate with a Political science degree Sunday, but he is going to have to postpone his law school plans at least for a couple of month. He is going to be a serious candidate for a late round draft pick at guard and at worst will probably end up on some squadf as a free agent this summer. So big, strong and athletic, he is a good prospect especially when you consider he only played football for a couple of years. Certainly deserving of first team all-big east. His side of the line this year was gangbusters.
Branch is going to get a strong look too. Kickoff returner, special teams and if he can be physical enough I can see him at safety. Good prospects, and those are probably the best pro ones the Huskies have.
Scott Lutrus and Bama Wilson were surprised at their honors. Both have been pretty good this year. Did UConn really go 9-3 with a pair of freshmen linebackers?

John, any observations on Tebow winning the heisman? Is there any change now that an underclassman has won the award for the first time? does Tebow go to the NFL now or play another year?
In addition, what is the situation with the giants/pats game in week 16 to only be televised on NFL network? How does that happen in the NE/NY area? any chance of that changing?
First off on the Heisman, didn't Archie Griffin win it twice? Also, I think Ty Detmer won it and returned to school. This isn't unprecedented.
He is the first sophomore to win it. I don't think he should have won it. He won it because Florida didn't have a viable running back on many of those short TD runs. His passing was very good, but it was the dual TDs that got him the reward, and I think it is a little inflated the TD numbers. He didn't dominate games.
I think McFadden should have won it. He was the most outstanding player this year. If Pat White put up a big game vs. Pit, I would have leaned toward him.
Tebow stays at Florida, and he won't win it next year, book it.
On the NFL network: If you are within the home territory of the Giants, roughly a 50 mile radius, you will get the Giants game on some type of local TV. If you live, as I do in central Connecticut, you have to have the NFL network. There is no other way to watch the game.
If you can, get NFL network. It's worth it if your a football fan.
Your lesson for today...Freshmen and sophomores are considered underclassmen.
Juniors and seniors are upperclassmen.
So yes, this is unprecedented.
