UFL to Hartford

Just got an email. Looks like the UFL will be playing in New York/Hartford in October of 2009.

I'll see if I can get some specifics.

Update: Confirmed, New York-Hartford is going to be a UFL team in 2009. At least one game will be played in Hartford where they will share a team with New York. Economy has taken a hit on the league so it's going to be centrally owned with the newest investor Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, coming aboard recently.

The stadium deals are being worked out, but Hartford/New York is one of the teams with Las Vegas/Los Angeles, San Francisco/Sacramento and Orlando area.

In the next month they will announce players and coaches and schedule. At least one game will be played in the Hartford area and I am assuming it is Rentschler Field (New Britain?). League will kick off October 2009.

Windsor native and former NFL executive Michael Huyghue is the commissioner.

Who is the fan base for this supposed to be? I am a huge college and pro football fan, but this doesn't interest me in the least. The last thing we need is a wannabe team in a wannabe league. What a joke!

This is the free market at its finest. If there is a market for this it will show very quickly.

These people don't like to lose money, they must feel there is an attraction here.

I predict an overwhelming "who cares" response from this already oversaturated market. The broader issue of whether this league can survive longer than a year is a big one. Why would this league have any better shot than the XFL, which had far deeper pockets behind it but still couldn't last more than one season?

Is Pelosi's husband using some of his stimulus package to fund the team? You know, instead of giving it to the middle class? Lets create another league that will be defunct in two years. Aren't we in a recession, who approves these ideas? Will someone actually pay $$ to go this? Sorry for being cynical...

The odds of this league even playing one game are 10000000-1.
