Going on vacation to the desert. I can't take blogging celtics anymore. The NBA is a fraud anyhow. No wonder the home team wins every game in the playoffs. Official are in the tank.
A bunch of criminals. They are already proven cheaters and point shavers. NBA referees have no credibility in my book. Brutal performance in Game 6.

Celts big tonight
Did you see the Pistons close out the Magic? Now that's a team right there. No Chauncey and they won 4 and 5. Now,only if Sam Cassell pulls his hamstring...
I am annoyed, read Bill Simmons to figure out why.
On to baseball:
I can't get into the Yankees this year. The team bores me to death. I don't like Girardi as manager and they look lifeless. I don't even plan on going to a game this year. I have no attachment to Yankee Stadium. T he building is ugly, and the seats stink. Can't wait until 2009. Maybe I can actually be comfortable watching a game there. I still have a kink in my neck from turning my head to watch a game.
Hank Steinbrenner says by "force" the Yankees are going to play better? What is he going to do? Give demerits of shame like in Gung Ho? Is he going to make them ride pink bicycles?
This guy is hilarious, as cartoonish as pops. At least it brings life to the team.

Game 4 on tap
Celts by 5 tonight, calling it now.
There will be some bigger news coming next week for UConn football. With the semester over we will get an update on the roster. Marcus Campbell will be back we'll see if Brandon Dillon is coming back too. Obviously, Danny Russell is out of here and I imagine there may be more roster shuffling.
Randy Edsall will speak Monday afternoon. I am going to be out of town, but news travels quickly.
Now to more important matters
Why are the Celts struggling on the road?
Simply, the point guard play of Rondo has been wildly inconsistent. He isn't a scorer, but he has regressed to his play early in the season. He is invisible and is not moving the ball and organizing the offense. The poor point guard play has ground the Celts offense to a stop. Why is Ray Allen struggling? He isn't getting the ball in good spots. Celts won't win the East if his play doesn't improve. Casell is fools gold at this point in his career. He is exactly what the team needs and he plays the way he needs to play. The bad part is he physically can't do the things he used to. He legs aren't there, and he can't play the way he did earlier in his career. Sam hasn't figured out yet that he can't play the way he used to.
But, when he plays well Celts start to roll.
Doc's rotations are shaky. I don't know why Eddie House is getting buried, but that guy is a killer when he is on. NBA playoffs comes down to PG play and defense on the road. Celts are lacking in that department.
Game 4 begs for Eddie House's shooting.
It annoys me to no end that Waly Szerbiak and Delonte West are hitting shots. Especially Wally. Take a look at photos. He is a ringer for Derick Zoolander.
Other NBA thoughts:
Chris Paul is best player in the NBA: Don't think I would ever say that, but I would take Chris Paul over any non-center in the NBA with the exception of Kobe. I think Paul is more valuable than LeBron. Paul reminds me of Allen Iverson with court awareness and a willingness to pass the ball. A more explosive Isiah Thomas and a stronger Tiny Archibald.
With the way the NBA rules are going he is nearly unstoppable. Danny Ainge tried to trade Paul Pierce for a lottery pick with the intention of taking Paul. As Ainge showed this year, he knows what he's doing.
Recent movie recommendations:
Thumbs up:
JUNO -- loved this movie. Funny and touching and Ellen page is terrific. On the downside, why has Jason Bateman's career come down to playing creepy men?
The last two times I saw Jason Bateman he was a stalker in a wheelchair (who wasn't really in wheelchair but did it to get the girl) and in JUNO he tries to cozy up with a 16 year old. It's been a long fall for the Teenwolf 2 star...ok, maybe not.
GOLDEN COMPASS -- I like these children fantasy movie genres. I don't know why, maybe because I read them all as a kid. This one was pretty good. Nice story and love Nicole Kidman. It's a better plot than Harry Potter, and much more mysterious movie than the Chronicles of Narnia (haven't seen Prince Caspian). I liked this one better than Eragorn also. Good movie, though I doubt with the saturation of these types of flicks this one will get noticed.
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN: Not Oscar worthy, though it is a good movie. Certainly better than the cliche filled Crash (Brokeback Mountain was far superior). I still don't get this movie, but a part of me couldn't stop watching it.
MICHAEL CLAYTON: Exciting movie, though it's hard to follow. Not sure if I like Clooney's character. Loved the final scene -- An indignant Clooney is upset he was targeted for death. "I am the one you buy off!" Touching.
Thumbs down
BEOWOLF -- CGI enhanced and boring. I don't get BEOWOLF. It was boring when I read it in college. It was boring as a foreign film adaption a couple of years ago, and it was boring in this CGI creation. Beowolf is a lot like Freddy Prince Jr. No matter how many times they package it and tell me it is great and try to sell it to me, it still sucks.
GONE BABY GONE: We have a rule in the Silver house. If any children get murdered the movie goes off. What kind of subject is this? I loved Mystic River. I hated this movie. And any time an Affleck is on the screen I cringe. Isn't the point of a movie to entertain your audience. I haven't been this turned off since 8MM.
I can't bring myself to watch Antonement or There will be Blood. Just too heavy. I have Cloverfield coming in the mail. Can't wait. Alien vs. Predator is also on tap soon...

I do other things
I know, I know, not a lot of updates on the blog. What do you want? It's May.
For the rest of this month this becomes a Celtics Blog. Of course, it is not the real Celtics Blog.
So, I have a couple of minutes here in Bridgeport at a US Boxing Showcase.
You know why I like boxing? Because it is so subjective and sometimes corrupt, but never hides that fact. Why am I saying that?
Because at least boxing and its referees know they are a little shady. The same can't be said of the NBA and its refs.
Editors note: JSilver is a crazy Celtics fan
It is Friday at 8 p.m., 24 hours until the Cavs-Celtics game 3, and I am here to tell you the fix is in. This is a preemptive complaint about NBA officiating. LeBron is 8-of-42 and there is no way the NBA will allow the golden boy to struggle once again. My prediction is 20 free throws for LeBron and Cavs pull out a squeaker.
Boxing knows its sketchy? The NBA? It reminds me of pro wrestling. Everyone in the arena knows that the guy gets hit in the head with a chair EXCEPT the guy that counts.
And I am not being Pro-Celts. The Rajon Rondo play where he was fouled while shooting a three was as bad as I have ever seen. He was never touched and just did the Reggie Miller kick out. Awful.
I know all the refs. Dick Pavetta, Bennett Salvatore, Steve Javie, Joey Crawford and Violet Palmer...
No other officials group has had such a sordid past. NBA officials have engaged in tax evasion and point shaving. I would say they have a career as boxing judges ahead.
Between the officials and Doc Rivers' rotations, Celts don't have a chance...

Academics over football
UConn defensive tackle Danny Russell is transferring.
It is an academic decision. The UConn School of Business is tremendous, what I get from Danny is that he felt he was missing out on the academic experience while playing football. And if he wasn't going to play football here, then his scholarship would be gone, and then what's the purpose of even sticking around? He probably wants a more traditional college experience with less athletic pressure. If he was going to ever transfer, this is the time to do it.
It's funny, I had a college friend of mine at UConn who was accepted to Princeton out of high school. He went to UConn on a full academic ride and struggled with not going to Princeton, but now he is happy he went to UConn and didn't have to pay for school. But, for Russell, no football meant he has to pay for school. If that's the case, it isn't a good fit for him anymore.
The fact is if it wasn't for football, Russell would have never come to UConn. He was trying to find a school that had a good academic-athletic balance. Now, he is going academics first, athletics second. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to an Ivy League School or Georgetown and never play football again. Certainly, the athletic commitment for Russell is overwhelming. It is a full-time job.
You have to love the sport to play it at a Division I level.
