13-year old QB commits to USC

I don't know what to say. I really don't.

David Sills, a 13-year-old quarterback from Bear, Del., has committed to play at USC, according to his private quarterback coach, Steve Clarkson.

ESPN.com's Shelley Smith reported that Sills, a seventh-grader, has verbally accepted a scholarship offer from Trojans coach Lane Kiffin. Sills plays at Red Lion Christian Academy. His coach, Eric Day, confirmed the decision in the Delaware News Journal.

13-years old? Really?  Here is my question, is it even legal for Kiffin to contact this kid? What's going on here?

Randy Edsall railed against recruiting yesterday. I was going to write a blog post today about perhaps it would be better for Edsall to go with the flow instead of trying to fight it. My theory was going to be by holding kids to their verbal committments -- if kid's visit somewhere else after a verbal it is rescinded -- that he is preventing 4 star recruits from perhaps committing early, taking a look around and coming home.

The Huskies don't have a hectic signing day and perhaps they should try and have one of those crazy days, you don't know who you end up with. I was going  -- I WAS -- going to write something well-thought out about that and how you have to play the game how others play it, not how you want to play it.

If 13-year old kids are even being scouted by college football coaches then I am off the bandwagon.
