Inside baseball story here, but I can tell you this is a big issue for college football writers across the country. For the sake of interesting reading and accuracy I would hope some schools and coaches see the light of day, but I am skeptical.

Hi John,
You are in UConn football territory and HCRE is a firm [FIRM] believer in controlling information and media access, moreso I suspect than many other coaches in the BE or beyond.
It come here at a challenging time to the print guy, who seeks depth and value to draw a readership. I enjoy your posts here on the big virtual cloud and appreciate your restraint compared to certain rancorous Hartford Courant writers I can think of. The only other compare / contrast I can come up with versus the newspaper writer these days is Joe D's radio talk show arounf 6:30. He gets a player on and joshes him up and talks about his role on the team and his studies etc. There are 88 stories to be told sitting up there... Could it not be that your interest a print version of a player interview might open a door?
Ha ...
Anonymous doesn't understand what's going on here. Joe D gets some access (from all the brown-nosing he's done); however, he really works hard to stay within the lines set by HCRE. Wayne Norman, for instance, ran afoul and isn't afforded the same.
John Silver (and the others) are not given the opportunity to write these profiles. Edsall squashes any of this; he doesn't allow access to assistants; and absolutely doesn't allow leaks (on recruiting or other things) that you'll see with other programs.
As a New program ... this strikes me as extremely counterproductive to achieving what the school wants. But it is what it is.
Silver ... bud ... you are doing a good job.
Tim
